Oldest NFL Player: Who Was Still Playing at Your Age?

The oldest player this season, since 1999 and of all time, then every NFL player since 1999 who played a game at your age or older, position by position.

42years, 320 days

Aaron Rodgers, quarterback, Steelers, is the oldest player in a game this season, on Oct 18, 2026.

Also 40 or older in a game this season: Nick Folk (K), J.J. Jansen (LS), Jon Weeks (LS), Morgan Cox (LS), Calais Campbell (DE). Games through Oct 18, 2026.

47years, 133 days

Morten Andersen, kicker, Falcons: the oldest in a game since 1999, on Dec 30, 2007.

48years, 109 days

George Blanda, kicker and quarterback, Raiders: the oldest ever, in the AFC Championship Game on Jan 4, 1976.

One mark per player since 1999, placed at his age in his last game (or his first game in Debuts). The number at the right counts the lit marks. Offensive linemen and long snappers before 2013 count only games where they were credited with a statistic, so their marks from those seasons may sit early.

Three oldest answers, measured on game day

The board at the top names the oldest player to appear in a game this season, the oldest since 1999 and the oldest ever. Each age runs from the birth date to the date of that game, in years and days, so a player who sits on a roster without getting into a game this season is not on the board. The season line uses games through Oct 18, 2026 and moves when the data is updated.

The all-time line comes from before the database. George Blanda kicked a 41-yard field goal for the Raiders in the AFC Championship Game on Jan 4, 1976, at 48 years, 109 days, and no one has played an NFL game at an older age since.

Your age across every position

The cyan line marks an age and runs through eleven position strips at once. Each strip holds one mark for every player at that position since 1999, set at his age in his last game, and the marks to the right of the line light up: those players took the field at the chosen age or later. The number at the end of each strip counts them, and the sentence above the chart adds them up.

At 38 the total is 154. Kickers, punters and long snappers make up 65 of them and quarterbacks 39, while running backs and linebackers stop at 3 each. The strips show why: the typical last game for a running back comes at 26, for a quarterback at 29, among careers that ended before 2025.

Position strips with the age line at 38: 154 players since 1999 played at 38 or older, 39 quarterbacks, 25 kickers, 22 punters, 18 long snappers and 3 running backs
The line at 38. Lit marks are players whose last game came at 38 or later.

A birth date in place of a whole number moves the line to the exact day, so each count compares a visitor’s age today with every player’s age on his last game day.

Inside one position

A tap on a position name opens the players behind its number, oldest first, with the age, date and team of each last game. A tap on a mark names the nearest player at that spot. The switch for kickers, punters and long snappers takes the three specialist strips out of the chart and out of the totals, which leaves the positions that take hits on most plays.

The other end: debuts

The Debuts view asks the opposite question with the same line: which players made their first NFL appearance at the chosen age or younger. Marks sit at each player’s age in his first game, and the strips light up to the left of the line. The youngest debut since 1999 belongs to Amobi Okoye, who played his first game for the Texans on Sep 9, 2007 at 20 years, 91 days.

One career, start to finish

The player search opens a single career: the first and last games found in the data, the age at each, the team in the last game and the player’s place within his position by age at that last game and by debut age. The same career appears as a white line on his strip, from debut to final game, so it can be read against the age line. Tom Brady’s line ends at 45 years, 166 days on Jan 16, 2023, the oldest last game of any quarterback since 1999.

Where the ages come from

Games come from the nflverse project: player statistics built from NFL play-by-play since 1999, and Pro Football Reference snap counts since 2013, which also catch players who never touch the ball, such as offensive linemen and long snappers. A player counts as having played in a game if he took at least one snap or was credited with at least one statistic in it. Birth dates and positions come from the nflverse player table, and each player keeps one position for his whole career.

There are no snap counts before 2013, so an offensive lineman or long snapper from those seasons shows up only in games where he was credited with something, such as a penalty or a tackle on a return. For those two positions the ages before 2013 are a floor: a mark at 42 means the player did play at 42, but his real last game may have come later. Players on a roster who never got into a game are not counted. The chart covers 12,079 players and games through Oct 18, 2026.
