Where Your Timeline Begins

Muted gold circles are tournaments already behind you – hover or tap one to see roughly how old you were, then its host and winner. Bright, gently pulsing circles are tournaments the calculator expects you to still be around for, with your approximate age at each one. The last few faint circles sit beyond your projected horizon on purpose – we leave them nearly blank rather than guessing a date, since anything that far out is uncertain about the World Cup format itself, not just about you. If the current year happens to be a World Cup year but the tournament hasn’t started yet, it counts as upcoming rather than already watched, which keeps the “already watched” count honest instead of counting a tournament before a ball has been kicked.

Why The Bright Circles Move

Three things control where the line between muted and bright falls. The birth year slider decides your starting point: any tournament from your birth year onward counts as watched, including the one happening during your birth year itself. Sex pulls a more accurate life-expectancy figure from standard population tables. Population data shows a real gap between men and women at the same age, large enough on its own to shift the count by close to a full World Cup cycle. If you would rather not say, the calculator blends both averages instead. The projection style then moves that same figure down or up by about 15% around the typical value, which is why a man born in 1996 sees roughly 11 tournaments ahead on the Typical setting, but the number moves several tournaments in either direction between Cautious and Optimistic.

The Two Numbers Worth Watching

Two cards sit below the timeline. “Last likely World Cup” names the final tournament inside your projected horizon, your approximate age when it arrives, and how many tournament cycles from now that is. “Football lifetime completed” shows the tournaments you have already lived through as a fraction of your full projected total, plus that same figure as a percentage – a quick read on whether you are early, midway, or near the end of your personal World Cup run. The line underneath restates both numbers in plain language tied to whichever inputs you actually chose, so it always describes your specific result, not a generic case.

One Small Extra

A small toggle below the cards turns on a short synthesized referee whistle whenever you press Calculate – it stays off by default and never plays on its own. Reset clears your inputs back to the starting defaults and hides the results, so you can run the numbers again for someone else without reloading the page.
